Chalford v Avening & Cherington

A&C's first ever match with the current squad saw them surprise their coach with a win! Things did not start off in auspicious circumstances as Brandon Walsh lost his stumps first ball - however he redeemed himself with 2 boundaries as he and Sholto Millar (4) took the visitors to 213. The partnership of Harry 'Potter' Stimpson and Tom Heslop saw A&C push on. Stimpson hit some lovely 4's on his way to 14 and Heslop weighed in with a boundary as well to take the score to 225. 'Captain Jack' Turner then guided Rollo Herbert, his younger partner, through 4 more overs as the score reached 227. The final inspired pairing of Edward Oliver and Joe Turner saw 25 runs added - and not even a run out involving young Mr Oliver! Joe scored 5 and Edward a belligerent 22 including 3 4's and a 6 and A&C totalled 252. Rollo Herbert opened the A&C bowling as Chalford began cautiously. Tom Heslop bowled beautifully to take 2-16 from 3 overs. Sholto Miller was tidy and Joe Turner was the same until he tired and bowled 4 wides in a row! Brandon Walsh was kept back for some time but responded with 2 wickets in a good spell and Edward Oliver bowled neatly, although he did overstep the front line on a few occasions. Pick of the bowling, as expected, was Capn Jack who took 3 wickets in two overs as he led his team to a narrow win. Chalford deserve huge thanks, not just for hosting and providing drinks and snacks, but also for matching the teams so closely together on ability.
